35mm Slide Scanning

Poster trimmerInstructional Technologies will duplicate non-copyright protected 35mm slides for use in electronic presentations. We require a minimum of 48 hours per one hundred (100) slides to be duplicated. Digital images will be made available over the Geneseo network via a secure folder upon completion. It is the user's responsibility to retrieve these images. Instructions on how to do so will be provided upon request. Color Laser Printing

Color Laser Printing is available in various labs on campus including
both the CIT Public Lab (South Hall 225) and Milne Library.


Commencement Streaming

The Instructional Technologies group in CIT "broadcasts" SUNY Geneseo's Commencement ceremonies on the Internet via a Mac OS X streaming server. Each May, we generate streams at two different quality levels (one for viewers with slower Internet access and one for people with broadband connections). We also feed the ceremonies live over campus cable for special needs seating in Kuhl Gym. Archived copies of the ceremonies are available for sign-out on DVD at the Milne Library.


Electronic Class Rosters & Mailing Lists

Class rosters are available for use in spreadsheets and grading programs. Electronic mailing lists can also be created to allow class discussion via email. To obtain class rosters or mailing lists, go to the Custom Class Roster link in Knightweb.

Lamination

CIT offers lamination of paper and light tag board stock. Our laminator is capable of handling items up to 24 inches wide and uses 1 mil lamination film. To cover the cost of materials we charge $1.00/ linear foot (with a minimum of 1 foot and only incremented in feet rounded up). Our laminator requires roughly 15 minutes to reach optimum heat, so please call ahead for this service.


Media Duplication Services

The staff of Instructional Technologies will duplicate non-copyright protected audio and videotapes for instructional purposes. The end user will be responsible for supplying a blank tape or their department will be charged $5.00 for a blank videocassette, or $2.00 for a blank audiocassette. We will also duplicate non-copyright protected materials to DVD. For simple conversion, there is a $3.00 charge per copy to cover costs of material and staff time. Given appropriate notice the staff of Instructional Technologies can provide a case and printed cover for an additional $2.00 per copy ($5.00 each.) For events which CIT has recorded, DVDs can be made available with case and printed cover for $10.00 each. Sorry, we do not accept media in exchange for these services. The staff of Instructional Technologies will not duplicate copyright protected materials without written notification from the copyright holder allowing such duplication. Multimedia Authoring

The Instructional Technologies Authoring Lab is available for use by faculty and students for educational purposes. The lab is equipped with two Apple PowerMacintosh G5 towers running Mac OS X 10.4 "Tiger", mini-DV decks, and VCRs for editing purposes. The towers are equipped with 250 GB hard drives and the following software:

  • Apple iMovie
  • Apple iPhoto
The lab is available Monday-Thursday 8:15 am to 9:00 pm, Friday 8:15 am to 4:00 pm. Technical Support is available Monday-Friday 8:15 to 4:00 pm. The staff of Instructional Technologies will assist new users of the facility in the use of the equipment and give users a basic understanding of the editing process.


Playback on Campus Cable

A campus-wide TV cable system is connected to all classrooms and residence halls. Presented on some of 70 channels are instructional offerings, weather forecasts, and special educational broadcasts. All major cable channels (ESPN, TNT, CNN, and MTV to name a few) and more are also represented. First-run feature films appear on two different channels 7 days a week, 24 hours a day.

Post Production Services

The staff of Instructional Technologies will assist students or faculty with the editing of videotapes to the best of their ability, provided the work is in conjunction with an in-progress class, independent study project, or other educational program. The staff of Instructional Technologies will also assist students using Newton's editing and videotaping facilities. The staff will assist in the use of the facilities by answering technical questions, repairing equipment failures, etc. The Instructional Technologies staff will not complete media production projects for students.


Poster Printing

CIT offers poster printing services to faculty, staff, and students of SUNY Geneseo. There is a fee of $5 per linear foot (34" width) for heavyweight paper and $10 per linear foot (42" width) for glossy paper. Posters intended to be kept for long term display should be printed on glossy paper. All files should be at least 150 pixels per inch for acceptable quality. All prints require 48 hours notice.

Special Event Support

Instructional Technologies will assist in on-campus educational events, and facilitating the media needs of guest speakers on campus as needed. Such events require no less than one full business day's notice. Events that may require special scheduling of staff or limited equipment require more notice. Studio Use

Studio B is available Monday through Friday, 8:00am to 4:00pm for instructional purposes. No food or drinks are allowed in the studios or editing/control rooms of these facilities. Users of the facilities will be responsible for leaving the facility in the condition they found it. Users of this facility are responsible for reporting any equipment problems or failures to a member of the Instructional Technologies staff, so the problem can be rectified.


Test Scoring/Analysis and Optical Scanning

Our optical scanning and exam grading process is a quick and
efficient means of obtaining test results and statistics. Faculty
administer the exam, fill out an answer key, have students fill out
an answer sheet, and the rest is done by the optical scanner and a
grading program. Results and statistics are emailed to the faculty

Training

CIT offers both individual and group training on numerous topics. We
are happy to provide tailored training to both departments and
classes. Please contact the CIT HelpDesk at 245-5588 and they will
direct you to the appropriate person based on your training needs.


Video/Audio Web Streaming

CIT will assist you in getting your media on the web for streaming. CIT Instructional Technologies will prepare your video for web streaming. CIT Information Services will assist you in getting the information on your website. Please call ahead and make arrangements for this service.


Video Conferencing

CIT operates and closely maintains the WESTNET Distance Educational Video conferencing classroom. Located in Newton 55, users of this classroom have the ability to do a synchronous, live connection to classrooms all over the world using ISDN (Digital Telephone) lines. The room has much the same equipment as many "Smart" Classrooms, but with cameras and microphones so faculty and students can be seen and heard live. There is no charge for educational use of the room, and an hourly fee structure (plus phone line charges) for non-educational purposes. All requests for use of the room must be made to CIT, and made at least one week in advance of the event.

Recording Classroom

CIT maintains a Self Recording service in Newton 213. The room is equipped with a discreetly mounted video camera and microphone directed at the front of the room, as well as a VHS recording deck. Following the instructions provided in the room, any individual can record their presentation for future playback. Questions regarding the classrooms operation can be directed to CIT Instructional Technologies.

Videotaping Satellite Teleconferences

The staff of Instructional Technologies will videotape video teleconferences delivered via satellite under the following conditions. The faculty or staff member making the request has all the appropriate technical information needed for Instructional Technologies to record the broadcast (i.e. satellite band and coordinates, video frequency, test times, etc.). This may require the faculty/staff member to register for the broadcast by a given deadline and pay a registration fee. Instructional Technologies is not responsible for filing registration information for these events or for paying any registration fee
